How do you build troops?

In your Town screen you need to build a barracks, which requires a Rally Point to be built first.  Do this by clicking an empty square and clicking Build under the Rally Point.  Once the timer has finished, you can build a Barracks too by clicking on another empty square and clicking Build for a barracks.  Once the barracks has been built, click on the barracks and there is a list of troops you can build.  If you put your mouse over the recruit button it will tell you what you need to build that troop unit.

How do you get an Amulet?

Amulets are given out daily.  One per day.  Check your quest log and there is a daily quests tab in there.  Get Award for your daily amulet.

What are Amulets for?

Amulets are used for gambling.  This is done by clicking on the roulette wheel on the bottom left of the main screen.  There is a little icon that looks like a spinning top, or a roulette wheel.  This will give your town some random resources or items.  You can check how many amulets you have in your My Items button under your avatar top right of the screen.

Is Evony Free?

Evony is only free if you don’t spend money.  You don’t need to spend money to play the game and to enjoy the game, you only need to spend money if you are very impatient or like to gamble.  You can spend real money via paypal to buy game cents which can be used to speed up production or by items, or buy an amulet for a chance at gambling.

How do I play Evony?

Evony has a great quest system to help new players find out how to play evony.  This is started and watched in the Quest menu which is found on the bottom left of the screen.  The little scroll.  Go through your quests regularly to see if you can finish any now or to see what is the next quest to do.

How do I get more food/lumber/iron/stone?

You get more resources by building farms, quarries and lumber mills in the City window of Evony.  Each extra resource farm will give you more of that resource.  The green writing on the bottom right of the screen next to each resource shows how many of that resource you gain per hour.  So after another hour you will get that much extra food/wood etc.

How do I get more land?

More land for building more resource gathering farms is expanded by building up your Town Hall.  In the Town tab click on your town hall in the middle and Upgrade it.  Each upgrade gives you some more building squares for more resources.

How do I fight?

Attacking is a big part of Evony.  Once you have built some troops you can attack flats, lakes, swamps, forrests etc. on your Map screen.  This is done by clicking the square you want to attack and then clicking the Attack button.  Then you can chose how many troops to send.  Read through Scouting in Evony and Evony Games before you attack something.

Why are my troops not defending my city?

Your troops will only defend your city if your gates are open.  This is a very strategic point to the game.  If your gates are open by clicking on your Rally Point and ticking the box for Open Gates.

How do I build a new city?

New City

Building a new city is a massive step in your Evony Game.  To do this, you’ll need an empty city slot, read through Evony Castle Capturing to see if you have an open City slot.  Then you need to attack a flat (read the How do I fight answer)  and own the flat.  Then if you have the required resources (10,000 of each resource and 10,000 gold) there will be an extra button when you click on the flat in the Map window.  Click the button and name your new town.

Can you earn Coins?

No.  Coins are bought with real money.  There are incentives to spend money on the Evony Game which will get you coins to use in the game.  The only way to get coins without spending real money is by your daily amulet roulette gamble.

How do I join an alliance?

Evony Alliances are a necessary part of the game.  To join one you need to first build an Embassy in your Town tab, and then click on the embassy and apply to the Evony Alliance you wish to join.  Then the Alliance leader needs to accept your application.

How do I rename my city?

Click on your Town Hall in the Town window.  The far right button is City Rename.  Click it and change it.

How do I change my flag?

Click on your Avatar (your face) on the top right of the screen.  Then click the button for change flag.

How do I logout of Evony?

Close the browser window.

How do I scout?

How do you get gold/money?

Gold can be obtained through raising your taxes.  The problem with this is you need to keep your population happy by doing Comforting in the Town Hall.  The other way of getting money is by attacking barbarian cities or other players.  The third way is by completing quests in your quests window.

How do I get more heroes?

Upgrade your Feasting Hall.  Each upgrade lets you get 1 more hero.  You need 1 hero for being Town Mayor, and more heroes for attacking.  If you’ve got a vacancy in your Feasting Hall, go to your Inn and recruit a new hero.

How do I save my Evony game?

Evony is a client-server based game that is constantly saving your game.  If your computer or browser dies, you just need to re login and your game will be there.  There is no need to save your game.  You can close the browser window any time and reopen it, login to evony and play your same game.

How do I get more population?

The population will rise if there is empty spaces for people.  This is done by building and upgrading cottages.  People will only come in to the same percentage that your towns happyness is.  If the town’s happyness is 90 then you can only fill 90% of your cottage space.  To make your town happier, try reducing your tax or temporarily making them happy by comforting in your Town Hall.

How do I make my population trend go up?

Your population trend will always try and ballance between the number of available spots in your cottages, and what the towns happyness is.  The trend going up and down doesn’t really matter as it will keep equalising itself back to a stable level.  If your tax rate is too high, then you might not have enough population to gather resources and the idle peasants will be red.  Try lowering your tax rate or building more cottages.

How many troops should I send to take over a valley?

Scout the valley you want to take over first, then put the details into the Exercise button on your Rally Point to see if you have enough troops and how many losses you might take.

How do I get Rose medals?

Attacking!  Attacking flats, lakes, swamps, forrests, NPC cities, other players.  There are also quests that give you medals, so check your quest log.

Like many MMORPGs it is often hard to login to evony.  This usually happens in times of great lag or the daily server restart.  The best option is to just keep refreshing and trying.  One day the little loading icon will pop up and you’ll be able to play your beloved Evony again.

 There are a couple of ways to Login Evony, you can go to the Evony homepage, put in your email address and password, click the server you want to login to and hit the Evony Login.  Or you can go directly to the server you play on if you have bookmarked it.  The bookmark will take you straight to the Evony Login for that server.  It even saves your Evony Login details so you don’t have to type in your login and password every time you want to login to evony.

The Evony Login page is the same one used if you try and refresh the browser in times of lag. 

Evony is putting on more and more servers to keep up with demand and in an attempt to keep lag low.  There are currently 21 Servers and 12 World Servers.  These Evony servers are divided up like this mainly for the language barrier.  That is, on the “normal” servers, English is the main language.  If evony players wanting to login to evony and speak other languages, then the World Servers are the ones to chose.

New Evony players are recommended to log in to the latest server.  That is, the one with the largest number.  At the moment the newest servers are Server 21 and World 12.  Joining an Evony server that has been going for a while will put you at a disadvantage straight off as there will be a lot of other gamers that would have built up their Evony castles much bigger than yours already.  Starting out in a new server gives you even footing.

If you have friends that are already playing evony and want to log in to their server, you can do this by ticking the server they are on and hitting the “Play Now” button.  If you can join the same Evony Alliance that your friend is on, this will give you a helping hand and could get you up to speed of the rest of the evony server and hopefully you’ll be less of a target.

If you are having trouble loging in to Evony, it might be in times of lag, or it might be after UMGE releases a new Evony Patch.  Try doing what developers call a “hard refresh“ this is done by holding down control and pressing F5.  This forces the browser to go and get fresh content from the server.  Another one of the ways to get past the dreaded orange “Please Wait” screen is to clear your browser’s cache.  In Internet Explorer this is done by going to tools, Internet Options, then delete temporary internet files.  If you have more than one browser, maybe firefox, then try switching to it to login to evony.  Or try logging in a different way.  Loggin through the main Evony screen, then chose your server.  Or try going to the server directly like http://[server number].evony.com/s.html this could work too.

Unfortunately one of the more memorable parts of playing Evony Free Forever is the site of the little clock madly ticking away and not being able to see anything happening on the screen.  This is the dreadded lag monster that affects most MMORPG at one stage or another.

Evony is working on combatting the lag by upgrading their servers and developing better client-server code to minimise the data sent between and un block the choked up lines into the Evony server.

One of the updates that Evony has done is to do an automatic reconnect when the player loses contact with the server.  This is a great feature and works well.  When the lag watch has been up for a while there is often a message telling the player to refresh the page and reconnect.  This sometimes helps, but more often than not will put the player out to the logon page to try and connect to Evony for 10, 15 or possibly over 20 minutes.
