There are some great videos out there for Evony.  They range from how to login and create your account.  To attacking and building your city. Some Evony Videos are crap, so I’ll try and find the ones that are worht watching and post them here.

How to attack cities:

So a new day, and once again I can’t login to Evony.  And I blame the boobs.

The Evony Game has been growing in popularity since its arrival a month ago.  This is mainly due to the intense advertising campaign that UMGE has been pushing.  Yes I’m talking about boobs.  The ads that are plastered everywhere on search terms I’d never even thought of.  These Save the Queen, Save your Lover and others with boobs have been infecting the internet for a couple of weeks now.  Each time a new ad comes out it is more promiscuous than before.

This spamming of the internet has reached into every nook, crenny and orrifice of the net and plastered scantly clad women all over.  All begging players to come and play the MMORPG Evony Game.

The ads are just there to suck you in though.  Once you start playing there are beginner quests that are built to help you familiarise yourself with the game.  These are a great way to start out and also are the hook which makes players addicted to Evony.  As you watch your castle grow and build resources and troops you get more and more hooked and want more and more castles.  This is the hook where the boobs are the bait.

Once swallowing the hook, you will play Evony like the other 3 million online gamers that are enjoying Evony now.

Evony Online has been around for over a month now, and many players in the 5 oldest servers (servers 1 to 5) are getting to the “end game”.  Unfortunately Evony doesn’t have much to do at the End Game.

Players that are over 300k prestige usually have 9 or 10 cities, and their cities are usually at the point of fully developed.  Also their research will all be at level 10.  What is left in this ever growing in popularity MMORPG? 

At prestige of over 300k generally the player will have ammassed a large army or two, or 9.  These armies need food to survive, and players were running their cities at a loss for food and were topping up by hitting barbarian towns which could be done without significant losses.  A couple of days ago, all these end game players were attacking NPC barbarian cities.  As of the latest patch, which brought in the lvl6 and on barbarian towns now take a toll whenever you attack them, these players aren’t attacking barbarian towns any more.  This latest patch has made these large players do whatever they could to survive.  This meant attacking other players, and in most cases on all servers this means WAR.

So WAR has broken out in all servers as a consequence of this latest patch, and the high end players are trying to hit as many other players as possible simply to get enough food to feed their troops.

 This has worked as a delaying tactic as if the high-end players weren’t forced to seek out food this much, they would have NOTHING to do!  This is the problem with End Game Evony.  There is nothing else to do once you’ve got 10 cities all maxed out with every city and town square populated with a level 9 building.  The Michelangelo’s Scripts aren’t dropping enough from attacking everything in site, so everything is stalled at level 9.  Theres no more research to do as its all level 10.

So the question is.  What is a high end player going to do after maxing out all their cities?

There is 2 answers.  First one is the most obvious – WAR.  The second one is Save The Queen.  Problem with this is theres no queen yet, and no one has told us how to save her!

Evony is fast becoming one of the most popular MMORPG on the net.  Evony Online was released nearly a month ago, and has over 1 million players.  The gamers are flocking to it as it is a Free  To Play game that is browser based.  So any browser, any PC, anywhere.  No Download needed, no credit card needed.

This game appeals to players as it doesn’t demand high hand-eye coordination like First Person Shooters, and can be played for a short period of time each day.  For best results while playing, it is suggested to log on often to keep building up your cities, but this can be done in 5 minute coffee breaks.

There is room in Evony Online for the hard core gamer as well.  As you could easily spend hours watching the timers tick down on your buildings and attacks.  And micro-manage your resources and troops.

One of the massive reasons that Evony Online has gotten such a big following is that it can actually be played while playing other games!  Many players of World of Warcraft play Evony Online in the background, or while on long trips or waiting for their WoW Guild to get together for a raid.  WoW chat has helped Evony become one of the fastest growing Online MMORPGs.

Theres a new Online Game Review site called MMORPG-L or Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game List.  The new site is going to review over 100 online games and have the ability for gamers to read through and find out what suits their online game playing character and prowess.

Games so far are World of Warcraft, Age of Conan, Eve Online, Lord of the Rings Online.

Like most MMORPGs, Evony is an online game of taking over other gamer’s castles.  This is the main emphasis of this marvelous MMORPG.  Most MMORPGs are more gentle, or rely on more Player vs Environment where the gamer plays against a computer simulated person.  In Evony Free Forever one of the ways of defeating your enemy is to take their city.  There are a few caveats though in taking a city. 

First it must not be the oposing player’s last city!  In other words, if the player only has 1 city, you can’t take it.  You can however kill all his fortifications and troops and scare off all his peasants which will effectively “kill” him, but you can’t hurt the castle buildings if its the player’s only city.

Seccond you need a free city slot!  Your title must be big enough to be able to hold an additional city.

1 city – Civilian

2 cities – Knight

3 cities - Baronett

4 cities – Baron

5 cities – Viscount

6 cities – Earl

7 cities - Marquis

8 cities – Duke

9 cities -Furstin

10 cities - Prinzessin

After you are sure you have done these two things you can pick a target to attack.  Read up on War Games to make sure you are attacking the right type of person.  It is always easier to attack someone closer to your city as the travel time for each attack will be lower.  Generally within an hour attack time is acceptable, but often if the city is more desirable (level 10 and in a nice strategic position) you could go further afield to attack someone.

Your first attack needs to be able to kill all their wall defences.  Ballistas and Catapults are the best at this as their range outstrips the range of arhcer towers.  However you will also need a lot of other troops as the oposing player might have his gates open.  With his gates open you don’t face just his wall defences, but all his troops inside the city too!  So your attacking army needs to be bigger.  Remember: an army which is much bigger will suffer less casualties.

After your first attack has cleared out the castle’s wall defences, you need to send more attacks, many more attacks.  You can see from the first war report if there is abatis left behind or other wall defences.  If there is, or if the person you’re attacking has a high level of Machinery researched then you might need to keep sending large armies until all the wall defences are destroyed.

Then you start killing the city’s loyalty.  Loyalty of the city can been seen on the attack reports.  Droping the evony city’s loyalty is done by repeat attacks, these can be as quick as every 5 minutes.  These can be big, but big is not necessary.  A good option is to just attack with 100 cavalry and a hero, these are fast troops and can kill abatis if the other player is on and trying to get some defence.  From loyalty 100 down to loyalty 14 each attack you send will do about 2 to 4 points of loyalty damage. 

After the city gets below loyalty 14 the city is affected by public grievance.  Attacks should slow down to about 1 attack per 15 minutes.  And keep going until the city is at or near 5 loyalty.

If the gates were closed all this time, at 5 loyalty the gates will open by themselves.  This means that the next attack will have to face all the troops in the city.  So don’t attack it with your 100 cavalry or you’ll lose them.  You’ll need to send an army.  This can be difficult depending on attack times because if you don’t send the final attack until the city is at 5 loyalty then the city owner has the chance of increasing the loyalty and then your troops, and the time it took for your troops to get there are wasted.  The troops won’t die, but they won’t engage the army within the city.  A way to get around this is to send the army a little bit early, and then watch the next couple of 100 cavalry attacks hit and see if the loyalty is where you want it to be when your main army is going to hit.  This can be tricky to judge the timing right.

To get the loyalty from 5 to 1 you need to once again send multiple attacks, and with a break time in between of about 15 minutes.  Public grievance will be bringing the loyalty down as well, but its good to keep sending attacks in.

From 1 to 0 it takes a while as the city is in it’s death throws.  This might be up to 2 hours to wait.  Keep attacking.

When and only when the loyalty is at 0 your next attack will take the city.  You get to rename the city and then it changes the flag and the city is yours!

The multiple attacks from 14 down to 0 are not entirely necessary, as by that stage public grievance will bring the loyalty down, but if you keep attacking it keeps the public grievance up.  Waiting longer will also drain the city of food and when there is no food the troops will die, unable to be cured they are dead.

In playing the game of Evony one of the main goals is to expand your domain.  Before sending your forces against your foe, you should do a scout to see how many warriors, archers, swordsmen, spears, ballistas, catapults, cavalry, cataphracts the other player has waiting in his castle.

If you don’t have very high informatics, or when defending, a high beacon tower, then you get sketchy or unreliable numbers from your scout reports.  The names below are what the evony developers have put instead of a solid number. 

Few = 1 to 24

Pack = 25 to 49

Lots = 50 to 99

Horde = 100 to 249

Throng = 250 to 499

Swarm = 500 to 999

Zounds = 1,000 to 2,499

Legion = 2,500 to 4,999

Bulk = 5,000 to 10,000

Giga = 10,000 and over

Unlike a lot of other MMORPGs that gamers come together to attack NPCs, Evony is very PVP centric.  There are still NPC cities dotted around the Evony game map, but the main emphasis on the game is wiping out rival alliances.  Making your alliance the biggest and the best.

 In Evony your alliance of up to 100 online gamers can have 4 different statuses with other alliances.

No status is they haven’t had any communication, they display a white flag on their castles on the map screen and are generally OK to attack with your army of troops.  Castles that have no status against you are fair game, but usually frowned upon attacking them if your Evony Alliance is at war with another alliance.

Nuetral is a status just above no status.  For most alliances this means don’t attack them unless they attack you.  They have been in contact with your alliance leader and have gone into an easy truce.  They can still be attacked, but its not very nice at all to do.  This status is sometimes used after a WAR with an alliance has ended, this is to let other people of the alliance know that its not OK to keep attacking with their armies.

Friendly status is used as a form of multi alliance alliance.  This will change the castle flags on the map to blue to show that you can’t  attack them and show where your friends are.  It is appropriate for you to ask for help of friendly alliances, they can help attack a single common foe, but can’t do a lot of the things that your alliance members can do, such as speak in your alliance window, reinforce your castle with archers/warriors, or transport resources or gold to your castle.  You also can not attack resource squares like swamps, forrests or flats of people that your alliance is friendly with.

HOSTILE status means your at WAR with that alliance.  WAR can be declared from either alliance, it doesn’t need both alliances to agree like the other statuses.  Once war is declared the flags on the map change to red to let you know that castle is your enemy.  They will also be at war with you; so will see your flag as red too.  When you are at war with another alliance, these castles are the ones you should be attacking.  Talk in your alliance chat and collude with other members of your alliance to attack these people.  If you are hostile with another alliance it is generally frowned upon  for gamers to attack people that you are not hostile with.  This is because you should be working together as a team to hurt or even take over the castles of your enemy.

Like many MMORPGs it is often hard to login to evony.  This usually happens in times of great lag or the daily server restart.  The best option is to just keep refreshing and trying.  One day the little loading icon will pop up and you’ll be able to play your beloved Evony again.

 There are a couple of ways to Login Evony, you can go to the Evony homepage, put in your email address and password, click the server you want to login to and hit the Evony Login.  Or you can go directly to the server you play on if you have bookmarked it.  The bookmark will take you straight to the Evony Login for that server.  It even saves your Evony Login details so you don’t have to type in your login and password every time you want to login to evony.

The Evony Login page is the same one used if you try and refresh the browser in times of lag. 

Evony is putting on more and more servers to keep up with demand and in an attempt to keep lag low.  There are currently 21 Servers and 12 World Servers.  These Evony servers are divided up like this mainly for the language barrier.  That is, on the “normal” servers, English is the main language.  If evony players wanting to login to evony and speak other languages, then the World Servers are the ones to chose.

New Evony players are recommended to log in to the latest server.  That is, the one with the largest number.  At the moment the newest servers are Server 21 and World 12.  Joining an Evony server that has been going for a while will put you at a disadvantage straight off as there will be a lot of other gamers that would have built up their Evony castles much bigger than yours already.  Starting out in a new server gives you even footing.

If you have friends that are already playing evony and want to log in to their server, you can do this by ticking the server they are on and hitting the “Play Now” button.  If you can join the same Evony Alliance that your friend is on, this will give you a helping hand and could get you up to speed of the rest of the evony server and hopefully you’ll be less of a target.

If you are having trouble loging in to Evony, it might be in times of lag, or it might be after UMGE releases a new Evony Patch.  Try doing what developers call a “hard refresh“ this is done by holding down control and pressing F5.  This forces the browser to go and get fresh content from the server.  Another one of the ways to get past the dreaded orange “Please Wait” screen is to clear your browser’s cache.  In Internet Explorer this is done by going to tools, Internet Options, then delete temporary internet files.  If you have more than one browser, maybe firefox, then try switching to it to login to evony.  Or try logging in a different way.  Loggin through the main Evony screen, then chose your server.  Or try going to the server directly like http://[server number].evony.com/s.html this could work too.

Unfortunately one of the more memorable parts of playing Evony Free Forever is the site of the little clock madly ticking away and not being able to see anything happening on the screen.  This is the dreadded lag monster that affects most MMORPG at one stage or another.

Evony is working on combatting the lag by upgrading their servers and developing better client-server code to minimise the data sent between and un block the choked up lines into the Evony server.

One of the updates that Evony has done is to do an automatic reconnect when the player loses contact with the server.  This is a great feature and works well.  When the lag watch has been up for a while there is often a message telling the player to refresh the page and reconnect.  This sometimes helps, but more often than not will put the player out to the logon page to try and connect to Evony for 10, 15 or possibly over 20 minutes.
